Dunning-Kruger Effect At Work

Have you witnessed the Dunning Kruger effect at work?

Of course you have, when people with less experience overestimate their knowledge and, therefore, opinions. Often seen between Sales and Service departments, each sees their hard work and challenges, and undervalues the contribution from the other.

The other instance is when actual experts doubt their own credibility and decision making ability. Often seen when a caring competent leader struggles to effectively address under-performance or negativity on their team.

We all exhibit this depending on the problems and people in front of us. Yet we know we don’t actually know everything, and while we are experts in some things; whatever we think SHOULD be happening, isn’t.

And then, there’s everyone else we work with doing the same thing with their own bias and goals.
